Rooms

Who this is for: directors · Where: Rooms in the sidebar.

What this page is for

Recording the physical rooms your school teaches in, and which room each teacher normally occupies. Both feed the timetable: a lesson can say where it happens, and two classes can be stopped from being sent to the same room at the same time.

You do not need rooms to run the journal, homework or exams. They matter once you start scheduling.

Adding rooms in bulk

Most schools number their rooms in runs, so Add rooms takes a range rather than one code at a time:

100-110, 201, Lab1-Lab3
  • Parts are separated by commas.
  • A range covers both ends, so 100-110 is eleven rooms, not ten.
  • Prefixes work as long as both ends match: Lab1-Lab3 gives Lab1, Lab2, Lab3.
  • Zero padding is kept: A-08 - A-11 gives A-08, A-09, A-10, A-11.
  • Anything that is not a range is taken as a single room name, so Sala de sport creates exactly one.
Check the preview before you confirm

As you type, the box below lists every code that will be created and counts them. That is where you settle whether you meant ten rooms or eleven — the button itself says "Create 11 rooms", so there is no guessing.

A hyphen inside a code is safe: A-01 on its own is one room, not a range from "A" to "01". If you want a range between hyphenated codes, put spaces around the separating hyphen: A-01 - A-04.

What the preview warns you about

  • Duplicates — a code listed twice is created once, and the repeat is named.
  • Backwards ranges110-100 is refused, with the offending part quoted.
  • Mismatched prefixesLab1 - Sala5 is refused.
  • Too many at once — a single range is capped at 200 rooms and one batch at 500.

Codes that already exist are skipped rather than failing the whole batch, and the result tells you how many were created and how many were already there.

Room kinds

Every room has a kind: classroom, laboratory, gym, workshop, hall, computer room or other.

The kind is not decoration. A subject can require a kind — chemistry needs a laboratory, physical education needs a gym — and the timetable will only place that subject in a matching room.

You can also record capacity, building and floor. All three are optional.

Teacher cabinets

Moldovan schools generally run the cabinet model: the teacher stays in their room and the pupils come to them. The Teacher cabinets tab is where you record that.

Pick a teacher, pick a room, and save. The timetable then tries to keep that teacher in their own room.

Different rooms on odd and even weeks

Some teachers share a room and alternate. Set the Weeks selector to Odd weeks for one room, then again to Even weeks for the other, and the teacher holds both.

Every week or alternating — not both

A teacher cannot have an every-week cabinet and an odd/even one at the same time; that would give two answers for the same week. Choosing Every week replaces any odd/even pair, and setting an odd or even room clears an existing every-week one.

A teacher with no cabinet is fine. It simply means the timetable places them wherever there is a free room.

Editing and deleting

Any room can be renamed, re-kinded or given a different capacity later.

Deleting a room removes it from the list but keeps the record, so anything that already referred to it still resolves. If the room is somebody's cabinet you are told how many teachers lose it before you confirm.

Rules and limits

  • Room codes are unique per school. Re-adding a deleted code brings the old room back rather than creating a duplicate.
  • A range covers both ends100-110 is 11 rooms.
  • 200 rooms per range, 500 per batch.
  • A code can be up to 40 characters.
  • One home cabinet per teacher per week type. You can add extra rooms as fallbacks, but only one is "theirs".
  • Only directors can add, edit or delete rooms.

Troubleshooting

"100-110 created eleven rooms, I wanted ten." Ranges include both ends. Use 100-109, or delete the extra one. The preview shows the exact count before you confirm.

"It says a room already exists but I cannot see it." It was deleted earlier. Codes stay reserved so history keeps working — adding it again restores that room.

"My range was refused." The preview quotes the part it could not read. The usual causes are a backwards range, or two ends with different prefixes.

"A teacher has no cabinet." That is allowed and often correct for teachers who move between rooms. Leave it empty unless they really do have their own room.
