Parent setup checklist
Who this is for: parents · Time: about ten minutes
Four steps, in this order. Each one only works once the one above it is done — in particular you cannot pay for a child you are not linked to yet.
Each screenshot is marked with a ring or an arrow showing where to click. The images contain no text, so they are identical in every language.
1. Join the school
Step 1.1 — Open the invitation link your child's homeroom teacher sent.
If the link does not work — it was cut off in a message, or it has expired — do not hunt for another link. Ask the homeroom teacher (diriginte) for the code and use it in step 1.4. The code is the reliable path; the link is only a shortcut to the same place.
Step 1.2 — Choose Parent.
Step 1.3 — Register with your email and a password.
Teachers and pupils use Google. Parents use an email and a password, so there is nothing to install and no Google account needed.
Step 1.4 — Enter the code. If you arrived by link it is already filled in. Otherwise type the code the homeroom teacher gave you.
Registering sends you a confirmation email, and confirming it opens a fresh page — but the code you arrived with is remembered against your account, so it is still filled in when you land back here. You never have to go back to the original message to copy it out.
You can also do this later from Family in the sidebar — the same card is there, which is how you add a second school if your children are in different ones.
2. Wait to be linked to your child
Joining the school does not connect you to your child. That link is made by the homeroom teacher, and until it exists your portal has no children on it at all — no name, no grades, and no pay button.
What to do: tell the homeroom teacher which child is yours. There is no request to submit — they create the link from their Homeroom page, and it takes effect at once.
How you know it worked: your child appears on your dashboard.
Each child is linked separately, and you pay for each separately. Children in different schools all appear together under Family.
3. Pay for each child
Where: Billing in the sidebar, or the button on the child's card.
Step 3.1 — Open billing. Each linked child is listed with their own status.
Step 3.2 — Press pay for one child. The price is set by the school and covers 12 months for that child.
Step 3.3 — Complete the payment on the checkout page that opens. That page belongs to our payment provider, not to the school or to EduRol — the school never sees your card details.
Step 3.4 — Check the status changed. Your child's access opens as soon as the payment is confirmed.
Step 3.5 — Repeat for each other child.
The school journal is never blocked — grades and absences stay visible whatever the payment status. What waits for payment is the rest: homework, exams, the report card, career tracking.
You may see your children marked as covered with no payment asked for. That is a trial the school has started — nothing is wrong and you should not pay. When it ends the pay button appears.
4. Connect Telegram
This is what turns EduRol from something you have to remember to open into something that tells you. A new grade, an absence, a message from the teacher — it arrives in Telegram.
Telegram is for parents only. Teachers and pupils get notifications in the app instead.
The first time you open the parent portal, a card offers to set this up and takes you straight to the right screen. It appears once: closing it, or using its Connect button, retires it for good — on every device, not just the one you answered on. If you closed it and want Telegram after all, nothing is lost; just follow the steps below.
Step 4.1 — Open your notification settings
Where: Settings → Notifications.
Step 4.2 — Generate your code
Press the connect control. A 6-digit code appears. It is yours alone and it expires, so finish the next steps now rather than later.
Step 4.3 — Open the bot in Telegram
Press the button that opens Telegram, or search for the school bot by name in your Telegram app.
Step 4.4 — Press Start
Telegram shows a Start button the first time you open a bot. Press it.
Step 4.5 — Send your 6-digit code
Type the code into the chat as an ordinary message and send it.
You can send just the six digits, or use /start 123456. Spaces and dashes are
ignored, so 123 456 is fine too.
Step 4.6 — Choose your language
The bot asks which language you want your notifications in. Pick one — this
choice sticks, and you can change it any time by sending /language.
Step 4.7 — Confirm back in EduRol
Return to Settings → Notifications. The Telegram section now asks you to confirm the connection. Approve it.
This second confirmation exists on purpose: it proves the person holding that Telegram account is really you, so a stray code cannot send someone else your child's grades.
Step 4.8 — Check it says connected
Step 4.9 — Choose what you want to be told about
Below the connection are the categories — grades, absences, notes, meetings, homework, exams, announcements, weekly summaries. Turn off anything you do not want.
Everything above can be turned off. Messages about your subscription cannot — missing the one that says your child's access is about to end would cost you more than the message is worth.
If something goes wrong
"The bot says the code is invalid." It expired. Go back to step 4.2 and generate a fresh one.
"The bot answers in the wrong language."
Send /language and pick again. The choice is remembered from then on.
"I pressed Start but nothing happened." Send the six digits as a normal message — the bot is waiting for them.
"I connected but no messages arrive." Check step 4.7 — a connection that is never confirmed in the app stays pending and delivers nothing.
"I want to disconnect." The same section has a disconnect control. Notifications keep arriving in the app.
Done
You should now be able to see your child, and hear about them without opening anything.
| What you can do now | Where |
|---|---|
| See grades and absences as they are entered | The journal |
| Explain an absence | Waivers |
| Book a meeting with a teacher | Meetings |
| Read what the teacher sends | Announcements |
Troubleshooting
"The invitation link opens a page that does nothing." Ask the homeroom teacher for the code and use the join card under Family — step 1.4.
"I am in the school but there is no child." You are not linked yet — step 2. Only the homeroom teacher can do it.
"The pay button is missing." Either you are not linked to that child yet, or the school is running a free trial and there is nothing to pay.
"I paid and nothing changed." Access opens when the payment is confirmed, which is usually immediate. If it has been longer, check the child's billing row — an unfinished checkout leaves the status unpaid.
"I have children in two schools." Join each school with its own code. Family shows all of them together.
