Promote all classes

What this page is for
At the end of a school year every class moves up one grade. This does all of them in one operation, and graduates the classes that have finished.
The rule

Grades 4, 9 and 12 always graduate, because they finish primary, gimnaziu and liceu respectively — regardless of which of those levels your school teaches.
The plan screen
Nothing happens until you confirm. First you see exactly what will be done:
- every class that moves, with its old and new name
- every class that graduates
- which grades will be left empty
- any name conflicts that block the run
Read the empty-grades list. It is the part people miss.
What you must recreate afterwards
Promotion moves classes up. Nothing moves into the bottom of each level, so those grades end up with no classes at all — typically 1, 5 and 10.
Your new first-years do not exist in the system yet. After promoting, create the entry-grade classes yourself in Classes & parallels and hand out their join codes.
The plan screen lists exactly which grades will be vacated, so you can write them down before confirming.
When it refuses to run
Class names must be unique within a grade and academic year. If promoting 4A
into 5A would collide with a 5A that already exists in the target year, the
run is blocked and nothing is changed.
The plan screen names each conflicting pair. Fix it by renaming or removing the class already sitting in the target name, then run again.
A half-finished promotion across a whole school is far harder to unpick than a refusal. It checks everything first, then acts.
Common tasks
Promote the school
- Open Classes & parallels.
- Click Promote all.
- Read the plan — especially conflicts and the grades that will be emptied.
- Confirm.
- Create the entry-grade classes for the new year.
Undo it
See Revert a promotion. One promotion is remembered, and it can be undone.
Rules and limits
- Terminal classes graduate first, then the rest move up in descending order, so a class never lands on a name that is about to be vacated.
- Marks stay with the year they were given in. Promotion does not move history; last year's journal remains attached to last year's class.
- Graduated pupils keep their records — see Graduation.
- If part of the run fails, the undo record is still written, so you can revert rather than being stranded halfway.
Troubleshooting
"Grades 1, 5 and 10 are empty." Expected — see above. Create them.
"It refuses because of a name conflict." Something already occupies the target name in the new year. Rename or remove it.
"A class did not move." Check whether it is a terminal grade (4, 9, 12) — those graduate instead.
"I promoted by mistake." Revert it.
