What this page is for
An early warning. It surfaces pupils whose recent record suggests they need attention, so a problem is noticed in November rather than in June.
How the score works
Four signals are added together:

The average bands do not stack: a pupil below 5 scores 15, not 23.
The total becomes a tier:

The score is arithmetic on attendance, marks and conduct. It knows nothing about illness, family circumstances, or a pupil who is fine and simply had a bad fortnight. Treat a high tier as a reason to ask a question, never as a conclusion.
Excused absences are not counted. Only unexcused ones score.
Using the board
- The donut shows the whole school across the four tiers.
- The by-class bar chart shows where the concentrations are — often the single most useful view, since a whole struggling class is a different problem from three struggling pupils.
- The table can be searched, filtered by class, and sorted.
- Clicking a pupil opens a panel breaking their score into unexcused absences, average grade, and conduct incidents — with a falling-trend note on the grade line when it applies — so you can see what is actually driving the number.
- Export Excel for a meeting.
Clicking a tier card or a class bar filters the table to it.
The parental-consent gate
If your school has enabled parental consent, pupils without consent on record are excluded from this page entirely — from the table, the donut and the class chart.
Scoring and ranking pupils by risk is automated profiling. Where a school declares consent as its lawful basis, a pupil without it must not be profiled. Recording their marks and attendance continues as normal — that is a legal obligation the parent cannot opt out of. What stops is the analysis on top.
This means your totals here may be lower than your roster.
Rules and limits
- Directors only.
- Active pupils in active classes, from active journals.
- Unexcused absences only.
- Recalculated from live data — it is a live view, not a stored score.
- Non-consented pupils are excluded where consent is required.
Troubleshooting
"A pupil I am worried about is not listed." Their score is under 5. The signals are attendance, marks, conduct and trend — a pupil struggling in ways none of those capture will not appear. The board is not a substitute for a teacher noticing.
"The counts are lower than my roster." Either most pupils are fine, or the consent gate is filtering. See above.
"A pupil is high but their marks are good." Look at the breakdown — it is likely absences (2 each) or conduct (3 each).
"The badge and the page disagree." The badge is fetched when the sidebar loads. Reload to resync.
