Referrals

Who this is for: directors · Where: the referral card at the bottom of your sidebar — on every director page — plus Referrals in the navigation and the banner on your dashboard. All three open the same place.

What this is

If a director you know registers their school and names yours as the one that told them about EduRol, you earn AI tokens every time one of their parents pays for a pupil. You then give those tokens to your own teachers.

It costs the other school nothing. Their price, their tokens and their pupils are unaffected — your reward comes from us, not from them.

Getting named

They name you while setting up their school, and they are asked twice so it is hard to miss:

  1. On the sign-up form, once they choose Director, under Who told you about EduRol? — they search for your school's name or your own name and pick it from the list. Searching by person matters: someone usually remembers the colleague who told them about EduRol, not the school's official name.
  2. On the first step of setting up the school, after confirming their email. Whatever they picked at sign-up is already filled in, and they can change it or add it here if they skipped it the first time.

Nothing is recorded until the school itself is created, at the end of that setup. Signing up alone attaches nothing to anyone.

It cannot be added afterwards

Once the school exists, its referrer is set and can never be changed — not by them, not by you, not by support. If they finish setting the school up without naming you, it cannot be attributed to you later.

This is deliberate. A referrer that could be repointed later would let anyone redirect an established school's payments to themselves.

Two things stop it being abused:

  • Only approved schools appear in the search, so nobody can register a throwaway school and name it as their own referrer.
  • You cannot name a school you already run. Creating your own second school earns you nothing.

What you earn

Nothing is earned when a school registers, or when it enrols pupils. Tokens appear only when a parent actually pays for a pupil.

Each paid pupil earns you the same token grant that pupil earns their own school. That figure comes from the price that school sets per pupil:

Their price per pupilYou earn, per paid pupil
99 MDL (the floor)10 000
149 MDL110 000
299 MDL410 000
1000 MDL (the cap)1 810 000

The base is 10 000 tokens, plus 10 000 more for every full 5 MDL above the 99 MDL floor. A partial step earns nothing extra — 103 MDL pays the same as 99 MDL.

It repeats every year. Each academic year those parents pay again, you earn again, for as long as the school stays.

A free trial earns you nothing

A school inside its free trial has full access without anyone paying for it. No money has arrived, so nothing accrues to you — however many pupils that school has, and however long the trial runs.

You start earning from that school on the day its first parent actually pays. This is the same rule as everywhere else on this page, but it is the one most worth knowing in advance: a large school on a trial can look like it should be earning you a great deal, and it is not.

One level only

You earn from schools that named you. If a school you referred goes on to refer others, those earnings belong to them — nothing flows up to you.

Reading the page

The Referrals page shows three figures at the top:

  • Ready to give — what you can hand to teachers right now.
  • Earned in total — everything ever credited, including what you have already given away.
  • Given to teachers — the running total you have shared out.

Below them, every school that named you, with how many of its pupils are paying and what each has earned you. Then the history: every token earned, deducted and given away, so the balance always explains itself. A distribution names the teachers it paid, so you can see where tokens went months later.

The history is paged — one referred school of two hundred paying pupils writes two hundred entries a year — but the three figures above it always cover everything, not just the page you are looking at.

Giving tokens to your teachers

Press Give to teachers. Add a row per teacher, search for them by name, type an amount, and the panel shows what is left as you go.

One operation covers up to ten teachers. Past that you can no longer check what you are about to spend before confirming it, so do it in several passes — nothing is lost between them, the balance simply goes down each time.

The tokens arrive as a personal top-up for that teacher. They behave exactly like a purchased top-up: spendable on any AI feature, never expiring, and drawn on before the school pool.

A teacher in debt is settled first

If a teacher has spent past their allowance, the tokens you give them pay that off before anything becomes spendable. Give someone 1 000 000 tokens while they owe 200 000 and they can spend 800 000. Nothing is lost — the debt was already theirs.

What the panel will refuse:

  • More than your balance. The panel says by how much you are over before you can submit. If it still refuses when the screen said you had enough, your balance changed in another tab — reopen the page.
  • More than ten teachers in one operation.
  • A teacher at another school. Tokens can only go to active staff at your own school.
  • The same teacher twice in one request.
  • Zero, or a fraction of a token.

There is nobody to approve the request — the balance is yours and it happens immediately. Every distribution is recorded permanently.

If a payment is refunded

If a parent's payment is refunded or charged back, the matching tokens are deducted from your balance. That family also loses access at the referred school until they pay again — a refund undoes the whole payment, not just your share of it.

If they later pay again, you earn again. A refund does not use up that pupil for the year.

Tokens you have already given to a teacher are never taken back from them. A teacher is not party to a refund between a parent and the payment provider, and they may well have spent them.

That means a refund can push your balance into deficit — the page will show it — and nothing is spendable until you have earned it back. Deducting only what happens to be left over would otherwise make "earn, give away, refund, repeat" a way to mint tokens indefinitely.

Who can see any of this

Your balance and the schools you referred are visible to you alone, as director of your school. Teachers do not see the referrals page; the schools you referred are never told what you earned from them; and no other director can see your figures.

If you move to a different school, the balance stays with the school that earned it — the tokens are for its teachers.
